Free Santa Claus Coaster Crochet Pattern

Christmas is quickly approaching. These cute little Santa Claus coasters are the perfect coasters for serving hot chocolate, eggnog, or Christmas punch. Santa Claus coasters are festive and versatile. They can also be used as decorations, ornaments, appliqués, and hostess gifts. Once you figure out the pattern, you can whip up a set of four in about an hour.

Santa Claus Crocheted Coaster Pattern

Materials:

Small amounts of yarn:
Peach, red or Red Heart With Love metallic red, white, blue (Note: peach yarn is hard to find. Pale pink or light beige will also work and any cherry red yarn looks good if you can’t find the metallic yarn.)
I hook
Darning needle

Face:

Round 1: Beginning with peach, chain 4. 
Make 5 double crochets in first chain stitch. Switch to white, carrying peach along, and make 6 more double crochets with the white. Join to top of chain 3 switching to peach.

Round 2: Switch back to peach, (carrying white) chain 3, dc in same stitch, and make 2 dc in next 5 dc (should be peach). Drop peach and switch to white and make 2 dc in last 6 dc (should be white) and join to top of chain 3.

Round 3: Continuing with white, chain 1 and single crochet in first peach dc. 2 sc in next 11 dc. (24 sc made for hair.) “Chain 1, sc” in next 12 dc and join to top of chain 1. Chain 3 and turn. Sc in chain one space. Chain 3 and sc in next space around to end of white sc. (Beard)

Hat:

Join red with a slip stitch to the 3rd sc above beard on the hair (right) side of the coaster. Single crochet in each of the next 3 sc. Half crochet in the morning next 2 sc. Double crochet in the next 2 sc. Triple crochet in the next 2 sc. Make 3 double triple crochets in next sc (This should be the top of the hat).   Triple crochet in each of the next 2 sc. Double crochet in next 2 sc. Half crochet in next 2 sc.  Single crochet in each of the next 3 sc. Slip stitch in next stitch and finish off. (Note: this will work if you have 24 single crochets. You can place a marker in the top and count down if you end up with more or less than 24.)

Pom Pom

Attach white with a slip stitch to middle dtr and chain 3. Make 2 dc in same stitch. Slip stitch into same stitch. Carry yarn to the back and fasten off.
Make 2 French knot eyes using blue yarn.

Hdc: half double crochet
Tr: triple crochet
Dtr: double triple crochet
